In 2014 we will be running the Device Developers' Conference in Bristol (20th May), Cambridge (Bar Hill - 22nd May), Manchester (Cheadle - 3rd June) and Scotland (Uphall - 5th June).

 

Android for Embedded Devices

Many developers have adopted Android as an embedded platform, as it has proven to provide a stable kernel, has no royalties or license fees, a huge library of open source code and device drivers, a very strong GUI capability and a global development community.

This presentation will show embedded systems engineers how the Android operating system compares to embedded Linux systems, other RTOS's and other OS's so that delegates will be able to choose whether Android might be the right choice for their future product designs.

An Introduction to Hardware-Level Validation and Test Using JTAG

JTAG/Boundary-scan testing has proved its worth for detecting PCBA manufacturing faults in production for more than 20 years. Now, through the introduction of lower cost, and even free tools, JTAG is being widely viewed as the 'go to' technology for debugging prototypes with faults, configuring CPLDs, FPGAs and flash and even as a conduit for validating IP cores within FPGAs.

This presentation introduces the basics of boundary-scan and its uses at board-level and looks further into how JTAG is being used at device-level in Micros and FPGAs.

30 Years of RTOS’s – What have we learned?

A look at 30 years of change in the Real Time Operating System industry. This talk charts Wind River’s experience from its founding in 1982 with two engineers in their California garage, to today with 300 million deployed devices.

It will look at lessons learned and key milestones throughout the life of VxWorks and end with a look at what’s new and exciting in the April 2014 release, VxWorks version 7.

Workshop - Advanced Debugging for Military and Safety Certification

As code has become more complex, and is running at ever faster speeds - more is being expected and demanded of debug tools. Not only do they need to find bugs, but more often, they need to be able to 'prove the behaviour' of the software under development.

This hands-on workshop will provide attendees with an overview of some of the software analysis techniques needed to ensure your code meets specifications such as ISO26262, DO178C and IEC62304.

The workshop will work through examples of code coverage using data generated in real time by the target core without instrumenting the code.

An analysis of code performance and timing will then be undertaken, including best and worst case response times as well time spent on external events. Along with numerous other detailed analysis options, the above data will then be exported to provide documentary proof of the code performance

Workshop - A Guide to Developing Robust, Realtime and Feature Rich GUI Driven Embedded Systems

This workshop will show you how to go from "Zero to HMI Hero" in 3 hours.

For any engineers currently exploring HMI (human machine interface) or GUI (graphical user interface) or RTOS (Real Time Operating System) technologies, this workshop will be an important opportunity to listen to the an experienced developer and get answers to challenging questions from real-world experts.

Workshop - Embedded Programmers’ Guide To The ARM Cortex-M Architecture

This class looks at all the really useful features added to the Cortex-M that makes it a truly excellent target environment for the embedded software engineer.

The majority of supporting material around the new generation of ARM Cortex-M architectures (M0, M0+, M3 & M4), unsurprisingly, focuses heavily on the key hardware specifics of the microcontroller core, with most coding examples being in THUMB2 assembler. However the majority of programming for the Cortex will be in the C programming language.

This class will also cover many of the core items required by engineers intending to take exams as a part of the ARM AAME program.
